Skip Hire - General Terms and Conditions

 

General Skip Hire:

The Hirer (Customer) will pay to the Owner (Recycle Southern Limited), the charges specified at time of order, in advance of delivery, unless credit account arrangements have been made.  Skips will not be removed until payment is received in full.

Unless otherwise agreed, the standard hire period will be for a period of 2 weeks maximum from date of delivery, or date of last exchange.  We reserve the right to collect the container after that date without prior notice.

Skips can only be placed on private land, unless agreed at time of booking, and appropriate approved permit is in place.  Where required, it is the responsibility of the Hirer to ensure that the container is properly illuminated during such times as the law shall require and shall indemnify the owner against any claims, proceedings, expenses in respect of the failure to illuminate the said container.

We reserve the right to charge a cancellation fee regardless of whether or not we have attended your site, for any booking cancelled with less than 24 hours notice, including instances where we are unable to perform the skip movement due to restricted access or overloading. 

The Hirer is responsible for the container, and the contents thereof, whilst in possession, and shall be responsible for all claims, costs, damages and expenses arising out of the position and the use thereof, thus indemnifying the owner against any claim.  Any damage to the container will be charged for.

The Hirer ordering vehicles to be driven to or from the container to be placed off the road, do so entirely at their own risk – the hirer thereby accepting liability for any damage caused to third party property.

Recycle Southern will not be liable in any way for any delay or failure to perform its obligations, or any loss, delay or damage incurred by the Hirer due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, which will include (but is not limited to), labour disturbance, accidents, breakdown of vehicles or machinery, fire, floods, unforeseen or abnormal conditions, acts of God, extreme weather.

The Hirer shall not move the container from it’s original position, once placed by the Owner.

 

Waste Contents:

Container must be level loaded only.  Excess waste will incur additional charges.  No skip shall be used in such a way that any contents fall onto the highway.

No skip shall contain any flammable, explosive, noxious, chemical, clinical or dangerous materials/substances.  When necessary, contents must be dampened to prevent nuisance from dust.

No skip shall contain difficult, hazardous or special waste, including POPs waste, and potentially hazardous wood waste.

We are unable to take any Cement Bonded Material (even if certified to be asbestos-free), unless prior arrangements have been made.

Liquids of any kind (ie paint, chemicals etc), Plasterboard, Asbestos, Tyres, Digger Tracks, Glass, Mattresses, TVs, Monitors, Laptops, Gas Bottles (even if empty), or Tree Roots should not be placed into the container.

Fridges or Freezers should not be placed in the container.  Batteries, or goods containing batteries should not be placed in the container.

Recycle Southern Ltd reserve the right to enforce additional charges for skips collected which contain any of the above specified special wastes.  Please contact us for further clarification, and details of additional charges should you wish to dispose of these items.  The following prices are correct as of Jan 2025.

Mattresses – £30.00+VAT per unit

POPs Waste: Large Upholstered Items – for example Sofas, Armchairs, Sofabeds, Futons – £50.00+VAT per unit

POPs Waste: Small Upholstered Items – for example Kitchen/Dining Room Chairs with padding, Stools & Footstools, Home/Office Chairs, Beanbags, Floor Cushions, Sofa Cushions etc – £25.00+VAT per unit

Domestic Fridges / Freezers / Air Con Units – £45.00+VAT per unit

Commercial Fridges / Freezers / Air Con Units – Price on Application

TV’s / Monitors / Computer Screens – £25.00+VAT per unit

Tyres – £10.00+VAT per unit (car/van); £25.00+VAT per unit (truck); Agricultural – Price on Application

Digger Tracks / Rubber Matting – Price on Application

Tree Roots / Logs / Stumps – Price on Application

Astroturf / Carpet / Lino – please speak to office (quanity dependant)

Food Waste – Not Acceptable

Paint – Not Acceptable (though we can take old paint tins if they are solid / dried out)

Liquids of any kind – ie Chemicals/fuels/solvents/cleaning fluids/oils – Not Acceptable

Containers that have previously contained flammable substances (ie fuel, oils, gas, solvents etc) – Not Acceptable

Fireworks / Explosives – Not Acceptable

Batteries – Not Acceptable – Please also ensure that all batteries are removed from any items – ie toys, remotes etc

Plasterboard – A small amount only can be taken in a mixed waste skip, but must be bagged, and easy for our operatives to separate from the rest of the waste. Please ensure you notify the office if you wish to place any in the skip. If you have a larger amount, you will need a dedicated collection for this material, which we can supply a skip or bulk bag for.

Special, difficult or hazardous waste of any kind – including potentially hazardous waste wood – Not Acceptable

Hazardous Wood – including Railway Sleepers / Telegraph Poles / Waste Wood from Hydraulic Engineering (ie from docks) / Waste Wood from Industrial Aplications (ie cooling tower timbers, wood block flooring or moulds / Waste Wood from Boats, Carriages or Trailer Beds / Wood treated with creosote  Not Acceptable.

Asbestos / Fibreboard – Not Acceptable

Corrugated Roofing Sheets – Not Acceptable

Gas Bottles / Canisters / Aerosols / Fire Extinguishers – Not acceptable (even if empty)

Clinical / Medical Waste – Not Acceptable

Fluorescent Tubes – Not Acceptable
